Duke and Miami both struggled on a waterlogged field Saturday, but the Blue Devils were able to overcome the soggy conditions and seal a 20-12 win at Miami on Saturday. The win was just the second all-time for the Blue Devils at Miami, and the first since 1976
Sophomore running back Deon Jackson gave Duke and early lead when he scored on a 75-yard rush on his team’s first placy from scrimmage. Jackson finished with 137 all-purpose yards.
After struggling to get going offensively early on, the Canes responded with their own breakaway touchdown run, as DeeJay Dallas took a handoff from quarterback Malik Rosier 83 yards to paydirt.
Miami then scored later in the half off a six-yard run by Travis Homer to grab take a 12-7 lead into halftime, but Duke scored 13 unanswered points in the second half including the go ahead score in the third quarter off Quentin Harris’ jump pass to Daniel Helm from two yards out to defeat Miami.
Duke hosts North Carolina next week while the Hurricanes take on Georgia Tech on the road.
NC State gets best of Florida State
NC State scored the game’s first 17 points and didn’t look back as the Wolfpack defeated Florida State 47-28 on Saturday.
The Pack scored on their opening possession off a one-yard touchdown rush by Ricky Person, Jr. Person finished with three touchdowns on the day (two rushing, one receiving), making him the first Pack freshman with three TDs in a game since RB Matthew Dayes had three rushing scores in his collegiate debut against Louisiana Tech in 2013.
Despite the loss, FSU Quarterback James Blackman played well, completing 29 passes for 421 yards and four touchdowns. His passing yardage total was a career high and marked the most passing yards by an FSU quarterback since Jameis Winston threw for 431 yards in 2013 vs. Maryland.
NC State hosts Wake Forest on Thursday while Florida State visits South Bend to take on Notre Dame on Saturday.
Syracuse keeps rolling, tops Wake Forest
No. 22 Syracuse ran 60 times for 264 yards and five touchdowns in a 41-24 victory at Wake Forest on Saturday at BB&T Stadium.
The Demon Deacons scored the first ten points of the game, but Syracuse responded by scoring 28 unanswered points on the strength of its rushing attack. ‘Cuse quarterback Eric Dungey ran 24 times for a team high 119 yards and a touchdown. He also completed 23-of-35 passes for 157 yards. Dungey increased his career passing yardage total to 8,473 to move into second place on the Syracuse all-time list, passing Donovan McNabb (8,316) and Marvin Graves (8,466). Ryan Nassib ranks first (9,190).
The Orange take on Louisville Friday night at home while Wake Forest will play NC State on Saturday.

Trey Sermon set career highs with 206 rushing yards and three TDs as the Sooners overcame a halftime deficit to rally to a 51-46 victory over Texas Tech on Saturday night.
The Red Raiders led 31-28 at halftime, but freshman quarterback Alan Bowman, who was 21-26 with 227 yards, didn’t return in the second half of the game after re-aggravating a lung injury sustained earlier this season. Jett Duffey took over for Bowman and was 9-for-17 with 139 yards passing and two touchdowns in the game.
Oklahoma’s Kyler Murray recovered from a pair of early interceptions that led to a two-touchdown deficit. He finished with 360 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 100 yards as Oklahoma won its 19th consecutive true road game, the longest active streak in the country.
Oklahoma will be back at home against Oklahoma State next Saturday while Texas Tech has another big home game against Texas.
West Virginia beats Texas in crucial Big 12 battle
Will Grier ran in a two-point conversion with 16 seconds remaining to lift West Virginia to a 42-41 victory over Texas in front of a crowd of 100,703 at Darrell K Royal Texas Memorial Stadium. The teams combined for 83 points, 1,098 yards and 56 first downs, the majority coming in the first half.
Grier, a Heisman hopeful, put on a show, completing 28-of-42 passes for 346 yards and three touchdowns. However, it was the efforts of Martell Pettaway and Kennedy McKoy that proved to be the difference, as the two running backs finished with 121 yards and 95 yards, respectively.
For his part, Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger had an impressive showing, completing 25-of-36 passes for 354 yards and three touchdowns. Much of that offense went Lil’Jordan Humphrey, who recorded 143 receiving yards and one touchdown for the ‘Horns.
The Mountaineers take on TCU at home next Saturday, while the Longhorns hit the road to take on Texas Tech.
