American Week Two Preview

Houston (1-0) visits Temple (0-1) in the first conference game for both teams. Houston opened with a 62-13 victory over Southern University, while Temple fell at Notre Dame, 28-6. The two teams meet for the first time since Houston defeated the Owls in 1989.

South Florida (0-1) travels to Big Ten power Michigan State (1-0), following a season-opening loss to FCS foe McNeese State. The Bulls allowed 53 points in Willie Taggart’s first game as head coach, but hope to put up a better defensive effort against a Spartans’ squad that passed for only 116 yards against Western Michigan.

Cincinnati (1-0) takes on its second-consecutive Big Ten squad, this time going on the road to face Illinois (1-0). The Bearcats scored 35 unanswered points to put away Purdue in week one, while Illinois used a goal-line stand to get by Southern Illinois, 42-34.

Memphis opens up its season at home versus ACC opponent Duke (1-0).  The Blue Devils claimed a 38-14 victory over the Tigers last season in the only other meeting between the schools. Memphis seeks to start the season with a win for the first time since 2004.

Led by QB Blake Bortles, UCF (1-0) travels to take on a Florida International (0-1) team that surrendered 576 yards at Maryland last weekend. Bortles threw for 314 yards and three touchdowns in week one against Akron.

Three American teams take on FCS squads in week two. SMU and Rutgers host Montana State (1-0) and Norfolk State (0-1), respectively, following week one losses. No. 8 Louisville (1-0) stays at home for a second-straight week, hosting Eastern Kentucky (1-0).
